Henderson Am op gat the correspondence there was a letter from Dr Cotterell, informing the Council, in its capacity as the Local Board of Health, that two new cases ol diphtheria had come under his notice. There was also a letter from Dr Yorath, slating that a case of scarlatina had occurred in the Immigration Barracks. In informing the Council that he had had the patieut, a young girl, who had come out with her friends in the Buckinghamshire, removed to the Hospital, Dr Yorath commented on the absence of a sick-ward in connection with the Barracks, and the annoyance caused thereby, and he suggested that the matter should be attended to at once. A telegram from Mr Cuthbertson, M.H.R., was received, in reply to a communication from the Clerk in reference to the Gas Bill, stating that Mr Cuthbertsou would at once see the Minister who had charge of the Gas Bill, aud submit the amendments made by the Council to him as soon as they arrived at Wellington. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary's department, in re ference to the appointment of a Revenue Officer to inspect weights and measures, and detect and bring to judgmeut all iufringers of the Licensing Act, and requesting to know what contribution the Town Council of Invercargill would be disposed to make towards the support of such an officer. Councillor Blackwood thought the Boad Boards should contribute towards the support of a revenue officer.
