BAKKEBS: THE NATIONAL BANK OF NEW ZEALAND SOLICITOUS : MESSRS SMITH AND ANDERSON. INTEEIM 6ECBETABY : MR RICHARD H. LEARY. There is no branch of commercial enterprise in New Zealand which presents such a favorable opening for the investment of capital as that of Fire and Marine Insurance. The success which has attended the establishment of " The New Zealand" and " South British" Companies is a proof of this. The business of Fire and Marine Insurance is sp rapidly increasing that there is ample room for another Company in this Colony. Largely increased facilities for covering this class of risks are imperatively required, and the National Insurance Company is founded to supply this want. Thiff Company is not started in opposition to any of the other New Zealand Companies, but is intended to co-operate with them in fostering the trade and commerce of the Colony, and concentrating in the country the large capital which is annually drafted out of it by foreign Insurance Companies. In order to make this a purely Colonial Company, and to . ensure a large amount of business through the influence of its shareholders, it is proposed to distribute the shares over- the whole - Colony, and, in -their allotment, to keep m view the ability of shareholders to influence business to the Company. Sixty Thousand Shares will be reserved for the Northern Provinces. The operations of this Company will be conducted on sound principles, and extreme caution will be exercised in the selection of risks. It is intended that the Articles of Association shall provide for the election of Local Boards of Directoiß by tas Shareholders iv the chief commercial centres of the Colony. The amount proposed to be called up will, it is estimated, be a' sufficient paid-up capital to warrant the Company in commencing operations, and it is not anticipated that any further call will be necessary. Applications for shares will be received by the Secretary, at the Company's temporary office, High street, Dunedin, and at the branches of the National Bank of New Zealand in the various Provinces.
