COASTAL MAIL SERVICE.
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMEfJ.) Sir, — The very unsatisfactory manner in which our mails via San Francisco have hitherto been conveyed between Port Chalmers and the Bluff, should be sufficient to induce, at the present time, our merchants, the Chamber of Commerce (if such an institution still exists), and the public generally to take some united action in order to secure what we are clearly entitled to, viz., the delivery and despatch of our m-u'ls afc the Bluff by tbe vessels that must shortly be subsidised to do the coastal service. The ocean steamers will shortly, I suppose, proceed (after calling at Auckland) on to Melbourne, which will be the terminus of the Hue in Australia, so that the coast service mu?t be performed by other vessels subsidised for the purpose. Torn just now is the time. The Grovernment should be made to clearly understand that no arrangement for the delivery and despatch of our mails via San Francisco will be satisfactory tohich dues nut pruoide Jur the contract steamers calling at the Bluff'. — Yours, &c, Axiom. Bluff, March 27, 1872.
