SWITZERS RACES.
The above races commenced on the 14th inst. The number of horses present was more numerous than on any previous occasion. The weather was very fine, but the attendance was not quite so good as it was last year. The different events, with the exception of the Miners' Purse, were well contested. FIRST DAY. Maxdss Plate, 1£ miles. — Johnny Raw, 1 ; Gambler, 2 ; Wallaby, 3. 5 others started. Waxaia Handicap, 2 miles. — Firetail, lOsfc 61bs, 1 ; Postboy, 9st 61bs, 2 ; Miss Fleet, Bst, 3 ; Countess, Bst lOlbs ; Ballet Dancer, Bst 41bs. Hack Race, Mile heats — Dolphin 1 1 Tutorau 2 2 5 others started. SECOND DAY. Hubdle Race, 2 miles. Weight for age. — Lilly Dale, 1 ; Don Pedro, 2 ; Disk, 3. Ladies' Pithsb. — Raven, 1 j Gambler, 2 j Brasher, 3. Coksoiaxiok Handicap, 1£ miles. — Postboy, lOst, 1 ; Miss Fleet, lOst, 2 ; Pussy, lOst, 3. HAD! Each, J mile heats — Renown ... ... ... ... 1 1 Tuturau 2 2 6 others started. THIRD DAY. MrNEBS' PtTESE, 2 miles. — Mr Collins's b.m. No Name, 1 ; Halley's b.m. Wallaby, 2. This race gave great dissatisfaction, as Wallaby could have gone two miles to the other mare's one. Hack HtxbdliE Race, i mile. — Dr Lake's Pussy, 1 ; Mr Chapman's filly, 2.
The salary and " pickings " of the Town Clerk of Glasgow amount to £8300 per annum. Mahogany sawdust, flavored with coffee, is extensively sold in London as a " cbe^p breakfast powder." The Scotch dairymen have beaten the Somersetshire men in the manufacture of Cheddar cheese.
