OTAGO MARKETS.

' The Daily Times of the 2nd inst. reports : — In the market for breadstuff's there is no change, and transactions continue very trifling as compared with those at this time last year. Northern •wheats have been moved, but only for grinding, and the market is without any accession of firmness. A better business has been doing in oats, at 2s 4d to 2s 6d though there is not in present advices much encouragement, and the prospect of immediate improvement in value is small. The Oamaru Times of the 31st reports : — Wheat remains dull of sale, and we can report no improvement upon last quotations— buyers holding off. Indeed, there can scarcely be said to be any buyers at present in the market. Oats are at 2s per bushel, and barley (no demand) 3s. Flour has fallen somewhat — present value, £10 to £10 10s. Potatoes in improved enquiry, £2 to £2 6s. General business exceedingly dull; money very tight. Messrs Weight, Stbbhensoh, and Co. report, for the week ending 28th May, as follows : — Fat Cattle. — The market is well supplied. We yarded 43 head middling to good quality, which fetched equal to 18s to 20s per lOOlbs. These prices represent current rates. Fat Sheep. — About 500 came to market, which sold at a slight advance on late quotations. We sold privately for delivery, 1000 merino wethers at prices equal to 2d per lb. We quote prime quality 2d per lb. Store Cattle. — No transactions. We have for sale a very fine herd of 300 mixed cattle, South, which are well worthy the attention of buyers. Store Sheep.— -No transactions. We have enquiries for good half-bred and merino lambs and wethers. Horses. — There is a fair demand for good draught stock, and horses adapted for coaching purposes, but light and inferior animals are difficult of sale. Country Sale. — On the 26th ult. we held a sale of farming stock at the farm of C. T. Ick, Esq., near Waikouaiti, which drew a large attendance of buyers, and competition was spirited. Fat cattle brought £6 10s to £8 ; dairy cows, £5 5s to £10 15s ; two year old heifers, £3 155 ; calves, £1 4s ; draught horses, £26 to £41 j light do, £7 to £14. Grain. — Market inactive. A few small parcels of oats have been quitted at 2s 6d, and of barley at 3s 9d to 4s 6d per bushel, the latter price being for a very saperior sample. Wheat, no transactions.
