VICTORIA.

(From the Argus, Oct. 28.) The political position lias become still further complicated. The Appropriation Bill, with the Darling vote included in it, has been again sent to the Council, and agiin rejected ; and now the Assembly is to be dissolved without any supplies for the year having been obtained. A temporary Supply Bill for £500,000 has been passed by the Assembly, with the view of providing funds for carrying on the Government during the election, but it is considered improbable that the Council will assent to it. "Under present circumstances, there is little probability of a new Railway Loan Bill being introduced. The premises of Messrs Kronheimer and Co., tobacconists, of Queen-street, were burned down on the 17th inst. Property to the value of over £5,000 was destroyed. Mr J. S. Butters has been elected Mayor of Melbourna for the ensuing municipal year. Several boiling-down establishments have been recently started, and it appears probable that in a short time we shall export not only tallow and hides but also pie served meat to England. During the last month very severe weather has been experienced. Some portions of the colony have been visited with disastrous floods. The cereals are looking very sickly. Sheep-shearing has been delayed. No sales of wool have yet taken place in Melbourne, and it is probable that there will be a short supply for the London March sales. Captain Cadell has discovered some good pastoral country in Northern Australia. It is also reported that he has found three white men living with the aborigines. They are supposed to be members of Leichardt's party. The news, however, requires confirmation. There is a good demand for labor at current rates. Female domestic servants are very scarce. Exchange on England is at a half per cent, premium. The rates of discount have been reduced one per cent., and now stand at seven per cent, for ninety-five days and under.
