— ♦ The *• Daily Times," March 4th, contains the following commercial intelligence : — The business of the week just closed has been remarkably dull, furnishing, amongst the transactions of importers, very little for notice. There has, however, during the last day or so, been a rather improved enquiry for several staples, and jt is apparent that a better export trade i 3 setting in. The auction sale on the 26th uit. of the Oberlin's sugars was attended with but little success, a few lines oily being taken up, notwithstanding the improving aspect of the market. Buyers seemed disinclined to meet the limits, and the bulk of the cargo had to be passed, and will probably be reserved for a more fitting opportunity. Since the 26th, advices from Melbourne report an advance in tbat Market of from 40s to 50s per ton, and the confirmaiory intelligence from Mauritius points to the probability of increased prices being maintained. A direct shipment of South Australian flour is to hand and in the market at £16 for trade parcels Candles are held for a higher figure than last quoted, and provisions have improved, The sales have, however, been inconsiderable. Brandies are, also, in consequence of advices, firmer. The business done in teas has been affected by the announced sale of theVelocidade's cargo ; but at the same time has not been altogether dull ; prices remain without alteration. The values of malt liquors are inclined to stiffen, rather than otherwise . but the business possible is but small, there being no new bulk ales yet to hand, and se ond houses being mostly sup plied with bottled beers. Sales of best brands ot galvanised iron are reported as having been made at fully maintained prices. Blasting powder is held ior 9d.
