CALDER, BLACKLOCK & CO. Invercargill, November 2nd, IS<33. Public Notices. VROSP E C T U S OP TIIK "RIVERTON WEEKLY TIMES." Head Opfice : — Riverton-. (Agents for Invercargill •■ Times O//icc, Tay street.) "I X announcing thn ostablisbmcnt of .lournnl hi I represent the intcrcsls of the Western District of the Province of oouthlnnd, its promoters would take this rppurtunity for briefly explaining the objects they have in view, together with the course of action they propose- to adopt. It will be their aim to co-operate with (be two local Journals which have already been so successful in forwarding the development of the natural resources of the Province, and in advancing its claims to a fair nnd equitable measure of Legislative cons : deration, without which its material advancement never ( nil attain to tho permanent footing its numerous capabilities nre so well mlitpted to secure. At the same time, such co-operation will always be conducted with a primary regard to the Western District of the Province. The Harbor of Riverton has a geographical position that constitutes it the first port of enll in the direct line of communication between Yietoria nnd the other produce markets of the Southern Hemisphere; this fact will receive the special attention of the " Riverton Tim ks," nnd no oflVrt will bo lost t<> impress upon flic Provincial Government the recessitv that exists for hnving it immediately plncerl upon a footing thnt will recommend it to shippers generally as a port ot dis charge. The advantages Riverton possesses as afTordinrr the shortest and easiest access to the Wakatip goldfields — which have proved the richest yet discovered — will be brought prominently forward, so that every inducement will be afforded for Riverton and the Western District generally deriving the full extent of advantage to which its relationship to the Wakatip District entitles it to sustain. As it appears to be the current belief that the lend of the gold follows in the direction of the Western boundary of the Province — while this Journal will be careful to lend every aid to the furtherance of the pastoral and agricultural interests, it will not fail to be watchful of every movement, whether Provincial or otherwise, that may have for its object the development of the mineral resources. The latest local, commercial, trade reports and price lists issued by the Home or other colonial markets, will be carefully selected, so that every opportunity will be taken advantage of for placing the merchants of this district in a position to compete with traders in other parts of the Province as well as those located in 7ieighboring Provinces. The Proprietors of the Riverton Times need not remind those to whom they must look tor countenance and support, that the carrying out of tboir object efficiently will entail a very large expenditure, and that, therefore, they expect advantage will be taken of their advertising columns to an extent that will warrant thorn prosecuting their endeavors to a successful issue. At the same time, the Proprietors would beg leave to call the attention of the Merchants and Traders of Jnverenrgill nnd other places to the favorable medium this journal will afford tor opening up a connection with the residents of the Western District of the Province. The first issue of the Hiverton Times will be published on Satcrbat, the 2nd January, 1861, and weekly thereafter till further notice. Subscriber's namos will be received at the following places: — Bank of New Zealand, the stores of Messrs Surman and Crerar, Mr D. Munro, Mr R Mills, Messrs Daniel and Teck, and at the Royal Hotel. R.
