■Bushrangers on the Sydnex Road. — On the night of 22nd, between the hours of ten and eleven o'clock, Mr. Bredall, one of the shareholders in the Fontana Reef, was stopped on the Sydney Road, near the Woodside Inn, by three ruffians, armed with revolvers. He was riding at the time, and, being thoroughly knocked up, he was partially in a dose, when the villains came up to him. One ; of them ordered him to dismount, when { he was searched, and as he had but a small amount of money, little or none was taken from him. He had a revolver in a belt at his back, and es; ayed three several times to get it in his hand, but he was told to keep still, and, upon being discovered, the revolver was taken from I him. With the thre. t that they would blow his brains out, if he mentioned the circumstance, they allowed him to depart. j Just previous to this, the scoundrels had stuck-up a drayman, who was camping near, ai.d had fired at the dray ; but this they said was accidental — one of their pistols having gone off at half-cock. The description giv^n of their manner is such as to warrant the supposition that the business is new to them. — Bathurst Times. Trials op Pioneek Settlers taking vr New Squatting Grounds. — MrT. "Wills, son of MrH. S. Wills, whosetragical fateour readers will not h ye forgotten, writes to a friend in Rockbampton. a letter, which the Bulletin publishes. He says : — " I have now to watch sheep at night, — having only three hours sleep — and attend from daylight till dark in the shed. If I were la leave at present the station would simply go to ' blazes ;' in fact, after the murder, shepherds cannot be got, and most likely with all other troubles J shall have to take a flock out myself." The editor of the Bulletin remarks — "The foregoing will be accepted by no small proportion of our squatting friends as a fair exemplification of what all the pioneer settlers are subject to, and will prompt inquiry, how far wise is the Ministerial resolution to partially abolish the native police."
