The master reports seeing a large ship on Tuesday, about fiO miles from the land, steering WSWi-r in the direction ot Hobart i T-'wn. Hud strong winds throughout the passage [ and on Monday had a gale from the WSW. Saw a brig steering* east, 50 miles westward of tho Colanders last Thursday. — Hobart Town Advertiser, August ii7th. The India, from Invercargill, arrived at the wharf at ten o'clock last evening, after a passage of eight days, having had li_ht easterly winds throughout, and has been off the Pillar since Sunday. No vessels have heen seen. The following arc the passengers by tho India — Cabin . Messrs Kidd, Johnstoin, Dubois, and Lovett : and two in the steerage. — Hobart Town Advertiser, Aug. 27. The clipper barque Bella Vista, Captain Ton ncr, came to an anchorage Inst evening, after a passage ', of nineteen days from Invercargill. Captain Tonner reports that he left fhe Heads on the 7th, and from tho evening of the Sth, for nine coys, had a continuance of most terrific gales. Such svas the force, that Captain Tonner, who is au old navigator in these waters, declares that he has not seen anything to nqu-il them for ten years. Thu gales were from WSW to WSW, aud after being eleven days out, Caotain Tonner found himself within a few miles of tho placo of starting, being within fifty miles of Capo Saunders, near Port , Chalmers. On the evening cf the Iflth, Stewart's Island was passed, and on the n oruing of the 25th, Maria Island was made. — Hobart Town Advertiser, August S7th.
