Yesterday the Resident Magistrate's Court * was thronged upon the occasion of sentence being pronounced in the sly-grog cases. His Worship (M. Price, Esq.,) before inflicting fie fines ably commented upon the .leading features of the cases, and the question of reliability of the Avitncsses for the Crown. He had to compliment Mr Macdonald for the able way in wTiieh he had conducted the eases for the CrcAvn and the Superintendent of Police ; also, the Barristers present, for the excellent manner in Avhich they had managed the various defences. The following were the sentences pronounced : — T. ITemmingway, fined £SQ, and C,s 6d costs ; Edward Mooring, do ; A. G. Pulling, do; G. Harrison, do ; William Wilkinson, do; John Wild, dismissed; Alfred Sugden, fined £50, and 6s 6d costs ; Patrick Finnigan, do; Stephen Cusack, do; Mrs M'Anish, dismissed ; William Hunter, fined £50 and Gs Gd costs ; F. 11. Lee, do ; Ralph Shaw, do ; Charles Nyulesy, do ; William Boyor, dismissed; David Bethune, do; D. McFarlane, do ; George Rees, fined .£SO and 6* Gd costs; Andrew Smith, dismissed; Wild Stark, do ; Jos. Thomson, postponed ; Henry Fry, fined LSO and costs, 6s. Gd.
