HOBART TOWN.

(From the Advertiser, Aug 4.) There wns a slight improvement in the markets to-day, and for one or two articles of produce there existed a much better demand. One parcel of feed oats, consisting of nearly one thousand bushels, was sold for shipment to Auckland, per Reliance, at 6s 3d per bushel. This is the highest fio-ure obtained for this graiA for some time. "Market quotations for wheat remain at 5s to 5s 3d per bushel, but we know of a sale on Saturday at os 6d. There are, however, few transactions. A little enquiry exists for flour for shipment, but there is no alteration in quotations, which at the mills are Ll2 to Ll3 per ton. For bran and pol-l.-mi there is a eood demand nt same quotation?. English and Cape barley are still enquired for. No"advance upon figures previously quoted is reported. Sales of loose hay of best samples were effected to-day at Lo 10s per ron. Country presse4 is in moderate demand at L 5 to L 5 15s, and hydraulic pressed from Lo 15s to L 6 ss. Potatoes are coming into the market more freely, and the enquiry has shickonerl. Prices, however, have not in consequence receded, nnd best samples still fetch L 5 10a, bags included. Butter and bacon arc selling at the same quotations. We have obtained from Messrs W. A. Guesdon and Co. the following report of sales lately made by them:— On th: 2nd July 63 bullocks, ex Glencoe, from L 7 10* to Lll ss, average Lf> 13s 2d. On the 7th, at Richmond, fat wethers 1 7s 6d, fat ewes 10s 6d, pigs 27s 6d, milch cows L 6 ; and a small quantity of furniture nnd sundries, which brought tail- prices. On the 13th, 399 sheep, ex Tasmania, 20s 3d to 2ls; at the mart, copper, stripped from Balmoral and H. S. Pa-re, -I^l to 4£d; two Commercial Bank shares LI6S each. On the loth, household furniture and effects, in Davey-strect, which vcnlised very satisfactory prices. On the 17th, 293 sheep, ex Ensign, 20s 3d to 20s Od. On the 21st, at Richmond, fat wethers, 13s ; colonial bullocks from Lll 10s to Lls 15s, average LI 3 8s Id; milch cows, L 8 ; young cuttle, L 3; pigs, L 2 8s ; small ditto, 30s; at the Franklin Wharf, ex Ensign, deals, 7 id; flouring boards, 15s per 100 feet. On the 24th, at the mart, damaged goods, on account of those concerned, hall-chests Twankay tea, damaged, Is Id to lsod; kmf sugar sd, liquorice SM to 10:|d, Coleman's mustard Sd, composition candles (light weights) 9d, chicory M. On the 27th, SO bullocks, ex Free Trader, from LlO to LL3l2s6d; average Lll 2s lid; 75 bullocks, ex Glencoe, ftvin LlO to Ll2 ss, average LlO 15s, 399 sheop, ex Tasmania, 20s 3d to 20* 6d. On the 30th, 77 bullocks, ex H. S. Pago, Lll 17s 6d to Lll ss, average Ll3 Is Id. On the 31st, at the mart, property known as Pascoo's brewery, not finding a purchaser, was withdrawn.
