TENDERS ARE REQUIRED BY THE GO- ' VERNMENT OF NEW ZEALAND FOR THE--PERFORMANCE OF THE UNDERMENTIONED SERVICES. 1 A Steamer to leave Melbourne within twentyJ • four hours after the due-dfte of the arrival of the European. -Mail Contract Boat, for Port Chalmers, Otago; calling at the Blaff. To wait in Melbourne for the Mail, if detained, not more than four days, after its due date. 2. A steamer to leave Porfc Chalmers for Melbourne, calling at tho Bluff, carrying the Homeward Mail of tbe Culoriy to 'Melbourne not later than two p.m. on the 16th of eaeli month, except February, and then on tho 1-ith. ; The steamers employed must; bo subject to the approval of the Government, and must be able to maintain an average speed of jiot less than eight knots an hour on each, voyage. All Post Office Mails must bo received on board and delivered to destination free of charge. Mails to be taken from, and, d e livered. on bonrd of the European Mail Contract Steamer in Hobson's Bay, at tbe expense of the contractor. A free chief cabin passage must be at the service of k clerk or ngent of the Post Office, on the requisition cf the Government, and proper accommodation provided for sorting letters. ' The tender to state the amount of penalty recoverable for general non-performance of contract; a penalty of £100 per diem will be required for delay in departure after the time fised on each voyage, and an additional penalty of £300 for failure, after such delay in delivering tbe homeward mail in Melbourne prior to the departure of the European Mail Contract Boat from that porfc. The tenders may state the sum for which tho whole or any portion of the foreinentioned services will be undertaken. Tbe contract to commence on January Ist, 1564, and to continue in force until tho expiration of six calendar months' notice to be given by either of the parties to the other of his intention to determine the same ; provided always that the contract shall not terminate before the 3lst day of December, 1564. ' • The tenders to bo endorsed " Tenders for the New Zt-aland Mail Services." to be addressed to the Postmaster General of New Zealand, and to be posted at Dunediu not later than the 18th day of September next.
