MELBOURNE COMMERCIAL.

(From the Herald, June 15.) There has been but a very limited amount oi business transacted in tho import market during the past week, and in fow instances Los there been any change in quotations. Tobacco and rice have been almost the only articles in which there baa been any speculation. The flour and corn' market has been very quiet, recent importations having had a depressing effect. Neither holders nor millers are, however, inclined to give way, and though transactions have been to a comparatively small extent, quotations remain at last week's prices. There has been scarcely any demand for bulk ale or porter, L 8 to-L8 5s is the highest quotation for the best brands of ale ; bottled alo and stout is in moderate demand at last week's rates. In wines and spirits there has been but little doing, the inquiry even for case brandy having considerably fallen off. Hennessy's and Martell's case, however, Btill command full rates. Hennessy's, to arrive, has been quitted tit 33s 6d, and Martell's at 30s. In other spirits there is no alteration. Hams and bacon continue to bo well supported, and the short supplies which have come to hand are not equal to the demand. Sales, to arrive, have been effected, hama at Is sd, and bacon at Is 4d per Ib. Butter has been rather quiet, but trade parcels in good condition still realise Is 4d. Cheese is in good inquiry, and small sizes of fine qualities find a ready sale, at from Is 2d to Is 2£d. Bags remain dull, but woolpacks are in better request, ealcs have remitted at ss, and full 101 b weights are now held at 6s 3d. Rice has decidedly improved. With the exception of that held by the trade the whole of the stocks have been secured by one house, and the price is now firm at L 2-1. In sugar there has boon but little doing, and we are unable to note any alteration in quotations. Tobacco lias been in improved demand, and almost all descriptions may he quoted at from 3d to 4d per 1b over last week's quotations. There are now no tens — oven If orthern — to be purchased under 2s 2d. Coffee has been in rnoderato request, and prices are unchanged. The tea market has been also dull, very few transactions having been reported. (From the Age, June 16.) Notwithstanding the very favorable advices re" gardiug shipments from England, the import market on the' whole has been quiot to-day, dealers feeling disinclined to operate in the absence of any specific details of what is coming forward. Butter lias been in active demand, about seven hundred firkins having changed hands at Is 3d to Is3fd. A bin of good remit hns been sold at 8s 9d to land. Crystals of soda have been inquired for, and sales made at LS 15s in trade lots. Gouda cheese, in good condition, realised, 10k! to 10-Jd. A parcel of -congou, of fine quality, was disposed of at 2s lOd. Cramer's candles hnve met with buyers in (rade lots to land, at 12^-d. It is rumored that from Calcutta the only vessels that hnve left during tlio month are those previously advised to 6ail, namely, the Prins Carl and the Oxenbridge. We have no means of knowing the correctness of this rumor, but on the strength oi it holders of rice have raised their demands very considerably.
