About 45 miles from tozon, the road turns to the left, and from thence to Winton Bush ( 18 miles) the dray track should be kept, then the Survey \ line to the River Oreti fl2 miles) ; from thence fulhio the dray-track to the Elbow Accommodation House. By this route, 30 miles are saved, and if the Oreti is high the East Bunk can be kept all the way. There is an accommodation house at Wallacetown, 7 miles from Invercargill ; another at the Lime Hills, 25 miles; another at the Elbow, 54 miles; another at Rogers, 74 miles; and another at the foot of the Lake 92 miles.
