MURDER ON THE DUNSTAN ROAD.

We have been favored by. the courtesy of the Commissioner of police, with the following amount of a most brutal murder on tlie Dunstan road : —

Information was received in town at the Police office, las' evening, of a murder committed at, Millar's Fiat, on Monday, 23rd i-isf ., bi-tw-r-en Tuapeka and the Dunstan.

Thf particulars as far as at present known are that deceased, who is only known by the name of •' Yorky. " was a packer, from Tuapeka to Millar's Flat, and had lately taken the murderer into mrtnership ; both being in the hahit of drinking very much.

The offender has been tracked on the road towards Dunedin.by Mr Millar, and Sergeant Garvey, and hopes are entertained by the police that they will effect his capture. He is described fis about five feet seven inches in height, 35 years of age, dark complexion, thin face, round shoulders, and stoops in his gait; has the appearance of a foreigner, but speaks Knglish correctly, and shows his lower teeth when speaking. Dressed in dark drab coat and wide-awake hat. When last seen he was riding one of the murdered man's horses, the only description of which is that it is a dark hrown-- nearly black— draught horse.
