(Hefore M. Price, Esq., Tt.M.) Saturday, 7th March. Ts-FTsnTATf;*?. — -Robt. McLaren was mulcted in tho smart penalty of 20s, nnd in nddition three days' imprisonment, (br being drunk in Tay-street. It was his third offence. Robt. McManus was fined in 5s for the .samo offence. Alleged Kohrf.rv. — John M.ilone was charged with stealing a purse and £C. Ss from the per..on of the above named Robert McManus. The two had been drinking together, and a cons tablo hearing that prisoner had b en seen taking the purse out of the other's pocket, arrested him. McManus s * ted that prisoner was his mate, and that he must have taken the purse for better preservation, he being unable to look after it himself. On this representation prisoner was discharged. M on-day, Oth March. A poor Toper. — Joseph Smith, hailing from Victoria was accused of b ing drunk in K 'vin-street on Sunday nitht. lie pleaded . iii y, -and in rcdy to questions denied that he bad been loa. ing about ; he belonged to the blacksmith trade and wai s.eking for work. The magistrate advkjd him to get into work as speedily ns possible, and impo d a line of 10s or fc -ty-cight hours'imprisonment. Joseph said all he was worth was 3s, and begged the bench to accept that amount, but liis Worship was inexorable.
