Ss from the per..on of the above named Robert McManus. The two had been drinking together, and a cons tablo hearing that prisoner had b en seen taking the purse out of the other's pocket, arrested him. McManus s * ted that prisoner was his mate, and that he must have taken the purse for better preservation, he being unable to look after it himself. On this representation prisoner was discharged. M on-day, Oth March. A poor Toper. — Joseph Smith, hailing from Victoria was accused of b ing drunk in K 'vin-street on Sunday nitht. lie pleaded . iii y, -and in rcdy to questions denied that he bad been loa. ing about ; he belonged to the blacksmith trade and wai s.eking for work.
