[During the thirty days ending Feb. 21, 1861, the thermometer in shade stood above 80 deg. on 24 days, and above 90 d^g. on no fewer than 14 days, reaching 94 d ;. on Jan 23. In the sunshine the mercury several times rose to 134 deg.] A heavy thunderstorm of two hours' duration occurred on the night of the 3rd, followed by fifteen hours' incessant rain. Strong variable winds with showery wether, prevailed up to the 12th, when the usiid summer S.E. winds set in with brilliant weather, the wind blowing - m that quarter during 19 days. The lightning was intensely vivid and the flashes • me at in, ervals of about five seconds. In the great s(orm which visited England on August 13th, 1557, the intervals were only three seconds— over 1100 flash . biinj counted in an hour.
