I have only lime to send a few hurried lines by my brother who leaves for Invercargill to-day. There are now five boats on the Lake, and they are going up crowded with passengers every morning. The news from the goldfields is still very encouraging. Another discovery lms been made ot Mold Creek, but as I have not been there 1 cannot give my own valuable opinion of the ground; however, I hear there have been some large finds made there of the heaviest gold that has }et been found. There are any quantity of stores on this side of the Lake, and flour is rising in price to-day ; it istcl-lino-at Is. Hd. readily, but I have no more time to tell you what little information I have already gathered. I shall endeavor to find lime to write to you from Mr. Rees station, which I hope to make to-morrow.
Constable Quirk arrived here late on Wednesday evening, and states that the diggers are doing remarkably well on the Arrow and Shotovcr. One man on Tuesday picked up nine pounds weight before dinner, and many are getting pounds weight a-day. M'Gregor's party had one thousand ounces on Wednesday, and a party of four of Mr. Rees' men, working on the Shotover, divided eight hundred ounces for three weeks work; one of the party sold out for £160. There are now about ten thousand ounces in the hands of the diggers, and Mr. Rees had a large quantity of gold- Sergeant-Mojor Bracken took 5,000 ounces [r>oo ?] over to the Dunstan last Monday. Provisions are still very scarce. Flour is selling at 2s. per Ib. at Rees' station, and "s. on the diggings, and there was only one lon of flour at this end of the Lake. There were ten dray 3 within a few miles of the Lake this forenoon, also a dray carrying Mr. Daniels' boat, so that (here are now si v boats on the Lake, and Mr. Rees' boat will be ready in a few days. The diggers are all well satisfied with their luck, and as soon as a sufficient supply of provisions v.re sent un, all will be well.
