BOWLING AT OTAKI.

A meeting !of the Committee of the Otaki Bowling Club was held at Mr. H. Palmer's residence on Friday evening.. Present: Messrs H. Freeman (presiding), H. Palmer, H. J. Pearse, L. G. Lowry, D. Noble, H. Nicolson, and D. H. Wdlmot (secretary). An ’apology for absence was received from Mr. Satherley. Correspondence was read from the Khandallah, Club relative to a match on Easter Monday.—Decided to send three or four rinks, if available. A letter was also read from Mr. Atmorc, relative to a bequest of £lO from Mrs. Mcßeath. —A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives, and thanks accorded for the donation. The Executive Committee of the Dominion Council wrote thanking • the Club for the .pleasant day arranged for members and the Australian bowlers. It was stated that the trip would always .remain fresh in .the memories of all.—Received.

The secretary reported that subs this season amounted to £Bl as against £?T 10s last year. It was mentioned, that there were still a few outstanding and an endeavour is to be made to collect them. It was pointed out that subs fr’om the Croquet Club were below last season. It was expected that there w'ould be, at the end of-the season, a credit balance of between £3O and £4O ( which was considered very satisfactory. It was decided to play the annual match, Town v. Country, next Wednesday afternoon, and progressive pairs on Friday and Easter Saturday. It wlas agreed to close the season on the last ' Saturday iu April, subject to weather conditions. The question of improving the pavilion was also considered, and enquiries as to cost, etc., are to be, made. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr* Palmer .for the use of his room and his hospitality. , Mr, H. Freeman, President of the Otaki, Club, on Saturday made reference to the bequest of £lO left by Mrs. Meßea'th, and stated that at various times the" deceased had helped the Club. Mr.. Freeman asked all to stand in silence as a mark of respect for the deceased laiy. Playing a pairs match on Saturday Smallbone and Pearse (s) defeated Haweia and Amyeis (s), 24- —16. At one stage of .the play the game was inter-, esting and a close finish was expected. A six by Pearse, however, made a big difference. '

A match for the Buckles was -played on Saturday. Jaut only one of the holders took part, namely Whyte. He hiad the assistance of Nicolson, Wilniot, and Noble, (s) while the challengers were McGill, Young, A. Smith, Windley (s). Play .for a time was of an even: nature but half-way through the challengers had the best of the play and r finally won with, ease, 30- —17. A progressive pairs , maitch will be played on Saturday, commencing at 10 a.m.
