ENCOURAGING PROGRESS.

A rumour was in circulation in Shannon yesterday that Mr P. Small, the United Party's candidate for the Manawatu seat was going to withdraw from the contest. Mr Small, who passed through Shannon yesterday, when approached by our representative sa to the accuracy of the r t umour, gave it an emphatic denial. He stated that his nomination papers were already in the hands of the Returning Officer. He reports having received excellent meetings wherever he has spoken and # is pleased with his prospects of being returned on election day. ME McMANAWAY AT MIRANUI.
