MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

'ls £» > iTVii Til- • iW&tt HELD IN APRIL.

The biennial niuuicipaJ elections, ihroughout, .New ; Zealand will be held 'this"year "on" tlie last Wednesday in I April—the 27th. This election is for both Mayor and Councillors for all boroughs. . The, main roll for tfcis election will close, on, Monday, 31st inst., butane, supplementary soil will be open until vWa would strongly urge ohr all electors their duty to see that, their names are on the rolls. At j'evcrySelection,, despite- the fullest noLtice giveny woiind quite a number of (people; arc ..disfranchised, entirely .through their own neglect. Mistakes arc occasionally made'.in the tion of all rolls, and even though an elector knows his name was enrolled for the last election, it is his duty to make quite certain that his name appears on the official roll. This municipal roll is, of course, 'entirely distinct from the parliamentary electors' roll. Occasionally it is found that people think that if (heir names are on the parliamentary rolls they are entitled to vote at municipal elections, and they do not discover their mistakes until it is too late to remedy the omission. Although there, is still ample time before the supplementary rolls close, we would advise every elector to at once make enquiry in this matter, so that 'enrolment may be assured if there is necessity for same. There is one provision of the Local Election and Polls Art of 1!)2(3 that should be*borne in mind. This provides that any corporate body, unincorporated society or association or partnership which is on the ratinglist may exercise a vote through an accredited representative. In the case of a corporate body, such as a company, the representative must present a sealed copy of a resolution appointing him. In other eases the document must be signed by the members of the partners. It is unlikely that the provision will be taken advantage of except by small partnerships, owing to the formalities required.
