POST AND TELEGRAPH WAGES.
MR JORDAN, M.P., SPEAKS OUT. AUCKLAND, Sept. 27. At me annual re-union of the AuckP telegraph Association Mr Mark man, Secretary to the Post Office, replying to a toast, urged the younger officers to qualify for promotion by examination. ‘ He said: During the past twelve to eighteen months there had been marked improvement in efficiency. Mr Carr, President of the Association, said there was no doubt the employees of the Department were underpaid. Their wages were something like 35 per cent, above the 1914 level while the cost of living had increased 25 per cent, more than that. Mir Jordan, M-P-, referring to the weekly wage of £3 19s 9d said it was a most disgraceful state of affairs. “I am ashamed to be associated with a Parliament which allows this position to be maintained.” It was up to every man to stand by the Association and urge his rights.
