ANNUAL MEETING.

V Tlie annual meeting of the Shannon jl’ennis Club was held in the • Council Chambers on Wednesday * evening, the President (Mr E. T. I Moodv) presiding over a large attendance of members. PRESIDENT’S REPORT. The President in his report stated that the past season hacl been a. successful one for the Club. At the commencement of the .season it was found necessary to have the courts top dressed and Mr G. Hook’s tender of £SO to carry out work was accepted. An immediate commencement was made on the work, but owing to wet weather the completion of same was delayed and _a further delay in the opening of the courts was also caused by the failure of the top dressing to set- quickly, with tile result that the opening day did not take place until* November 11. As the tar and material were on the ground it was decided -to asphalt the floor of the pavilion. A dance was held to raise funds to assist .in paying the expense of the top dressing. Unfortunately, this was held on election night with rile result that the attendance was affected, the sum of £5 3s 3d being ■ cleared over and above expenses. During the season matches were played against Bulls, Tokomaru and Foxton (2), the club winning two and losing two. Matches were also played between members, and Were much enjoyed by all. He thought more interest could have been taken in championship matches than was done, several being unfinished. No prizes were given i for these matches and he suggested that it he a recommendation to the incoming committee' that in future, if funds will,permit, prizes be given to the winners in each case. No doubts were Eli is done, members'would not object to an increase in the entrance fee. He referred to tile less the Club had sustained by the departure from Shannon of Mr W. G. Quarne (club captain), who he said was a mos valued and keen member. Mi E. Aim was appointed to fill tlie vacancy, but later fin the season lie also left the town, and tlie duties-ot club captain Were carried on by the Selection Committee. Early-in the season Foxton were the holders ot the Nathan Gup and tlie Committee endeavoured to arrange a maten with them. Unfortunately, Fox «>e owing to engagements.for mtei club matches, could not meet us., felt confident that with the team thev would then have been able to pu/ in the field they would have won the Cup even if for only a short time. By means of a street stall conducted by the ladies the Club had benefited to the extent of £2O 4s In conclusion he thanked the ladies for supplying afternoon tea at the functions and those worked in the niterests of the Club. ELECTION QF OFFICERS The following officers were elected for the ensuing" year: E' T Moody (re-elected); wex-pres dents, Messrs H. Hook and J. T. Bovisj secretary and treasurer; Mr G. Mitchell (re-elected). General committee, Mesdames Moymhan, Bo™, Merwood and Morgan and Messm Walden and F. Murray Hon. auditor, Mr 1. W. Murray.
