RECREATION GROUNDS.
IMPROVEMENTS RECOMMENDED.
A meeting of representatives of the general public, Ratepayers’ Associauon, and football, cricket and athletic clubs, presided oyer by Mr Greedy, was held in the. Library on Thursday night, .as requested by the Borough Council, to draw, up a list of improvements required at the Recreation Grounds, and as a result the following work was decided upon by the meeting: The ground to be drained, to be followed by ploughing, levelling and laying down in suitable grasses; accommodation seats for the general public, improvements to the extension of the pavilion, cutting down of the big trees and extending the boundaries further on to the road and planting with suitable hedges, gates to be erected on opposite corners of the ground, formation of cycle track and cricket pitch, fencing the oval with white fence and rails and erection of further public conveniences. About two-thirds of The ground will be occupied by the sports bodies and the rest will be devoted to children’s amusements, it being intended to erect swings, see-saws, etc., similar to those Palmerston North possesses. It was further decided that all money raised, for the purpose be held by a committee representative of the sports bodies, public and ratepayers, viz., five, together with three representatives ITomrthe Borough Council. Such funds to be spent at the discretion of such committee.
The report of the meeting will be placed fefore the Council this evening.
