WORD A JAY ZEALANDERS WOULD ABOLISH.
Tiit-re-is a word against which the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Sir James Alien, is Avaging Avar (says a Home paper). Tho word Is: Australasia. Sir James thinks that, by its use, New Zealand tends to lose her identity Avhen she is mentioned in conjunction with Australia.
“Many people Avho really ought to know better.” lie said, “are inclined to think that New Zealand is a part of Australia. The result is that business Avh’ch shou'd go direct to the Dominion filters through Melbourne or Sydney, 1 200 miles away.
“There is a Bank of Australasia, of old standing, and a publication called tho Australasian. 1 should like to see both change their names. “As there is no difficulty Avhatever in using tlie phrase Australia and New Zealand in place of the Avoid Australasia, I should A’ery much like to see this change brought about.”
