’PHONE 6000 CAN HEAR.
A telephone instrument which may have wide applications to both AA rircless and'ordinary telephony has been invented by M. J.. Gaumont. who has demonstrated it at the Academy of Sciences, Paris. Tim vibrating part of tin- instrument weighs only 15 grains, and consists of a little com- made of silk wound with a spiral coil of aluminium wire, through Avhieli the telephone current passes. This vibrates la-twee., cone-shaped poles of an elcctro-mag-net, which are bored with holes in \ order to let the movements of air! caused by the. silk cone be transmitted I to a horn. 'Tlie telephone, which is quite small, ■ is stated to be :\iilieieritly loud for 6000 people to be able to hear. A } modified form of the telephone can be ( heard 300 yards away. j
