WIRE RECEPTION.
WORLD'S RECORD HELD BY NEW ZEALANDER.
Mr R. Slade, a New Zealand amateur residing in Dunedin, possesses wonderful records of receptions, front American amateurs sending on -00 metres. His log book shows stations (eighty-nine different) heard up to Mav 10 with his single valve circuit. and he has quite a collection oi cards and letters verifying reception. Among them are ILL, ISG. SPN (100 watts), SKG (30 watts), 6JD (100 watts), BYAE-10 watts), 9UU (oft watts), 9BED (50 watts], all these stations heino- over 5000 miles away: and olvC. KMO miles. Hie .greatest power used (100- watts) is equivalent to- that consumed by a 100 e.p. lamp, while the In west (10 watts) is half that- consumed by a sixteen c.p. lamp. When Mr Slade tunes in. lie holds his breath, and. grasping lii.s tuning dial by the edge, turns it a hair’s breadth at a time until the station comes in clearly. On Sunday night at 5 o’clock an American broadcasting station was picked up. but not sufficiently loud to he recognised. Mr Slade’s reception has aroused great interest in Ameiica, articles appearing in all the radio magazines as well a.§ in some of the newspapers, and liis pur.' of American correspondence makes very interesting | reading. j
