/ The s.s. Hawea was to leave Oamaru at midnight for Timaru and will land 3d tons of sugar. She will take 500 tons of produce for Napier and Auckland. The s.s. Corinna arrived this morning at 9 o’clock from Dunedin via Oamaru. She brought 70 tons of merchandise, and will take - 250 tons of produce. She is expected to get away at 5 o’clock for Lytte I ton.
The s.s. Hawea arrived this morning from Oamaru via Auckland, with 20 tons of general cargo. She' takes 400 tons of produce for Napier and Auckland, and is expected to leave /it 8 o'clock to-night. The seamen of the ship Beacon Rock,
who struck work at Wellington on Monday as a protest their food supply, f-.state that insufficient supplies were put aboard the ship at Talcahuana for the run across to New Zealand, with the result that they were on half rations during a portion of the voyage; also that when a full supply is available, short weight /“whacks” are dealt, out to them. The men claim that they are entitled to a good allowance of fresh m,eat when in port, but they are not getting it.
