WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Waimate Borough Council met 'on Wednesday last. There were present His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Coltman, Inkster, Mann, Philip, Jones, O’Connor, Sinclair, Cameron and Dean. Mr Costello’s tender for channelling at Is 6d per chain was accepted. No response had been made to invitations for shingling. It was suggested that it would be well to employ a man with a horse and dray for borough work. The matter was referred to the works committete.

Councillor Philip drew attention to some broken crossings and the danger arising therefrom.—The matter was referred to the inspector. The dog tax for 1901 was fixed at ss; sheep dogs, 2s 6d each. Two cases of typhoid fever were reported by the Health Officer. It was resolved to erect a water trough in High street. It was resolved to close the Borough Offices for the holidays from December 22nd to January 7th, 1901. Mr Lilly, day man, was granted a holiday. Mr Coltman said that he would let the matters stand over on which he had given notice of rescinding motions. As it was reported that a building in wood was being erected within the area in vhich wooden buildings are forbidden to be erected, Mr Akhurst was instructed to report, and the inspector of nuisances also to report. Accounts amounting to £4O 4s were passed for paymentt and the Council rose.
