SUPREME COURT.

Per Press Asociation.

CHRISTCHUR3H, November 29

At the Supreme Court to-day, an action claiming damages for slander was heard. Catherine Nugent, a tailoress, sued William Whitta for £SO in respect of certain statements alleged to have been made by defendant reflecting on plaintiff’s character. After a considerable amount of evidence had been taken, the case was adjourned till to-morrow.

DUNEDIN, November 29,

The new points brought out in the evidence were in relation to the knife with which Fogo was killed. Mrs Fogo had stated that she had gone downstairs for the knife. Miss Fogo, her daughter, now

states that she took the knife into the bedroom on the day before the tragedy, to cufc some cake, and had not taken it away. Andrew Fogo, her son, stated that he had looked in the drawer in which the knife is kept on the night before the tragedy, and it was not: here. Dr Gloss was cross-ex-amined to show that want of sleep and worry would produce a condition closely allied to monomania. Andrew Fogo stated that his mother told him, a day or two before, that she had had no sleep for eleven days. Mr Sim will address the jury, and the Judge sum up, to-morrow.
