The following awards have been announced for Timaru and Oamaru competitors in connection with the home industrial section at the Jubilee Industrial Exhibition:—Plain needlework, knickerbocker suit, Mrs C. C. Empson, certificate; decorated needlework, Miss R. Rutherford, highly commended; needlework, Miss E. Butt, Glenavy, silver medal; drawn work, Yida Anderson, silver medal; Class B, Mrs Matheson, commended, best dressed baby doll as baby Rita Glover; silver medal special for crochet and knitted quilt, Mrs R. W. Steel, Glenavy; patchwork quilt, C. E. Bateman, certificate. The following are the results of the competitions in the literary section of the Exhibition Class 3, essay (open), “Advantages and disadvantages of existing as com- j pared with the provincial form of Government” (judge, Hon. C. C. Bowen), H. E. Carey, Wellington, gold medal and Mayor’s special prize; M. Moseley,’ Sumner, silver medal; Miss Anderson, Springburn, certificate. Class 4, essay (open), “Probable effects upon the position of the colonies as parts of the British Empire of their action in respect of the war in South Africa” (judge, Hon. W. Montgomery), J. C. Thompson, Southland, gold medal and special; H. E. Carey, Wellington, silver medal; S. Bilton, St. Albans, certificate. Class 5, poem, “ Original poem on some subject .connected with the history or legends of New Zealand” (judge, Professor Wall), M. Nalder, Papanui, gold medal- W. Alexander, Wellington, silver medal- C. F. Salmond, Ashburton, certificate. Class 6, “ Original paper on ■some subject connected with the history or legends of New Zealand” (judge, Mr E.
