The case in which James Patterson, of New Plymouth, sued Edmondson and Dickenson, of Wellington, for £IOOO damages for arrest under the Bankruptcy,Act, came before the Chief Justice to-clay. Plaintiff did not appear, and was nonsuited with £25 costs.
CHRISTCHURCH, November 27,
A somewhat peculiar case came before .Mr Justice Marlin in Chambers yesterday, of C. Lewis v. lUoinfield. The member for Christchurch bad made sketches, etc., of prominent members of the House, and incidents during the session, which he sent to a friend. By some means they came into the hands of the Auckland “Observer, , which intimated its intention of publishing them. Mr Lewis thereupon obtained an Injunction to prevent the same, and yestei day the injunction was made perpetual, and an order granted for the return of the sketches within seven Jays, and ten guineas costs. Two Burnham boys, who pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary on Saturday, came before Mr Justice Martin at the Supreme Court. His Honour deferred sentence till he had inspected Lyttelton gaol, to see what arrangements were made for l)o\s. The Judge subsequently sentenced one o the boys to two months’ imprisonment, the other to go back to school. HUNKDIN. November 27.
