Theatre Royal.

“ JONES ” TO-NIGHT. The curiosity of the public to learn, by ocular demonstration, “ What Happened to Jones,” and “Why Smith Left Home, will be allayed to-night by the appearance of Rev. Charles Arnold and his company of London comedians at the Theatre Eoyal. “ Jones ” and “ Smith ” as the farce comedies are termed in the professional argot, which invariably abbreviates the long and cumbrous title often bestowed by an ambitious author, are having as triumphant a march as Lord Roberts on his way to Lydenburg, with this difference, that the success of Bobs ” was accompanied by the weeping and wailing of Boers, whilst “Jones” and “Smith” bowl along to the hearty laughter of all sorts and conditions of men and women. Mr Charles Arnold has always been a popular actor with Timaru play-goers, and everybody will be delighted to welcome him back to-night. The company supporting him is one of the most complete organisations that has visited New Zealand, and arrive this morning from Dunedin, where they have just brought a long season to a brilliant conclusion. The advance booking betokens a crowded house, and it is safe to predict a most successful season in Timaru for Mr Arnold and company. In fact we notice by the box plan at the Dresden Piano Company’s show room that only six seats remain unreserved in the dress circle, and that a great number of the reserved stalls are also booked.
