have had, has made a notable difference in the sands of Caroline- Bay. A good deal of sand has been shifted from the Bouth to the North end. At low tide today one coaid walk on dry sand to the nearer end of Benvenue cliff, and there is now a bank of sand several chains wide off the end of the Whales Creek drain, over which the tide at its highest does not flow effectually, though by lapping over the outer and higher edge of the bank it creates a pool of stagnating wa'er, which may eventually become a nuisance. The tide-washed area is now, except at the north end, much narrower ilpn usual, but probably the next storm will drag out the slope again. “X. Y, Z." sent £8 14s to tlio Commissioners of Inland Revenue (England) as a portion of the income tax he should have paid but did not pay. But the Commissioners have a conscience too, .extraordinary as it may seem, and advertised that “X. Y. Z.” has failed to prove his liability, and can have his money back on sending his name and address. Altogether a most remarkable exchange of courtesies! Old Kruger’s a bit out of reck’ning If he thinks he will wriggle scot free, Xo angels to him’ll be beck’ning When he swings by his neck from a tree. He’ll get a bad cough in the open Exposed to the air, I am sure, And his hands’ll forever be gropin’ For Woods’Great Peppermint Cure. (Advt). When the Government announced in the House of Commons that Irish soldiers (in whatever regiments they might fee) would fee allowed to wear Shamrock on St Patrick’s Day, Mr W. liedmond created a hearty laugh by asking whether, in view of the fact that when he raised this matter on a previous occasion he was turned out of the House, the Government would apologise to him.
Symptoms. When you feel run down, the bowels irregular, specks before the eyes, nervous and irritable, the appetite not too good, an uncomfortable and blown-out feeling after meals—you are bilious and livery. Loasby’s Wahoo soon alters all this. It stimulates the whole system, makes every organ act in unison and perform its natural functions with ease. Remember you don’t have to take a dozen bottles. A single dose usually relieves and one bottle generally cures. It is worth trying. It can be obtained anywhere. Ask for Loasby’s Wahoo. The House of Commons, both parties concurring, defeated Ministers on March 9th. Ministers wished to adjourn after completing Government business, at an early hour, but both Ministerialists and Opposition demanded that private members’ Bills should be taken, and after a discussion, animated on the part of the private members, Ministers gave way, withdrawing the motion for adjournment. Eev. S. A. Donahoe testifies to the good qualities of Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.—On the 10th of December, 1897, Rev. 8. A. Donahoe, pastor M. E. Church, South, Pt. Pleasant, W. Ya., contracted a seyere cold which was attended from the beginning by violent coughing. He says: “After resorting to a number of so-called ‘ specifics,’ usually kept in the house, to no purpose, I purchased a bottle of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, which acts like a charm. I most cheerfully recommend t to the public.” For sale by Canterbury Farmers’ Association (Ld.)
Isaac Gordon,a Jew money lender, who became notorious of late years through his numerous lawsuits, and his conviction and imprisonment for 10 months on a charge of fraud, died at the beginning of last month. A search was made for his will but in vain, andj there was much speculation as to the amount of money he had left behind him. It was commonly supposed that it must have been about a million. One line of investment was known—£7o,ooo in Birmingham Corporation Stock. He had no home, but lived in hotels. He came out of prison a wreck, but soon recovered and returned to business, and set to work to revenge himself upon the public for what he deemed was a false imprisonment. He was cruelly hard and extortionate in dealing with gentiles, and preferred not to deal with men of his own race, but when he did he was liberal, demanding no interest, and fixing no time for payment. A magnificent new yacht has been built for the Queen, but it is doubtful if she will ever use it. It is a boat of 4700 tons and 11,000 horse power, designed by the supposed-to-be best naval constructor in England. But when she was fitted up, and an attempt was made to float her out of dock, she heeled over and jammed herself in the dock gate, and as the tide sank and let her down on the solid, she strained her frames and dented some plates in. She was floated, docked again, mended, and launched again, and then she was found to be so top-heavy and crank, that a number of men crossing from one side of the deck to the other gave her a list to whichever side they went. They set to work to cut down her top hamper to make her seaworthy, but the Queen declares that she will never trust herself or her family in such a boat. Why experiment on yourself—with remedies of doubtful utility when you can get Chamberlain’s Oongh Remedy, which has stood the test of time ? Twenty-live years’ sale and use have proven that remedy to be a prompt and certain cure for colds. It will cure a cold in a day if taken as soon as the cold has been contracted and before it has settled in the system. Sold by Canterbury Farmers Co-operative Association. Lid,).
