Dr Drew resumes practice on Friday. There was a considerable fall of snow on the Two Thumb range yesterday, whilst it was raining down here. A visitor to those localities informs us that rabbits are very numerous about Goal Creek and the Tengawai valleys. Messrs Wilson Bros., have commenced business as house decorators, glaziers, sign-writers, etc., in those large and centrally situated premises at the corner of Stafford and Woollcombe Street. They will keep full stocks of all requisites in their business. Interior decoration is a speciality with the firm, and they have a first-class sign-writer in their employ. The breaking down of the clay bank at the north side of the railway station is a tedious and hard-graft process of undermining with the pick.- We have heard it suggested that it would be easier to “saw” the clay down, as stone is sawn, with a twisted square wire, or a wire clothes-line, two or three men pulling alternately. If this proved a rapid means of bringing down the bank, it would not cost much to cut down the clay between the railway and Caroline bay. It could be slid down on to the sand and a grassed flat made there, very little protection being required now. The a s. Rotokino, berthed at the main wharf this afternoon, having recently been in Sydney, some precautions have to be taken to night to prevent the possibility of rats getting ashore from the vessel. The Rotokino has “ done ” her quarantine at Port Chalmers, but thffl precautions are nevertheless to be taken. There Is a difference between Timaru and Sydney which la worth mentioning. In Sydney the wharves gave forth smells attractive to rats on the vessels; in Timaru tire wharf offers no such attraction.

Some remarkable snapshots of the war are being made in Paris. The French photographers have collected some old horses and guns with some supers from one of the Paris theatres, who are made up as Boers or Englishmen as occasion demands, the Boers being distinguished by their long whiskers and the Englishmen by their uniforms, Imitation breastworks have even been built near Paris, and these are stormed by the supers, while the photographer takes his pictures. One single bit of truth is the picture ot a ford. It shows a big tree at the left in the foreground, with a shallow river behind, and a few cows and sheep wading to the further shore. "Whenever our forces have crossed a river anywhere, this picture has been used to illustrate the exact place of crossing. All these counterfeit pictures are much more dramatic than the real ones, which find a far less ready sale. Symptoms. When you feel run down, the bowels irregular, specks before the eyes, nervous and irritable, the appetite not too good, an uncomfortable and blown-out feeling after meals—you are bilious and livery. Loasby’s Wahoo soon alters all this. It stimulates the whole system, makes every organ act in unison and perform its natural functions with ease. Remember you don’t have to take a dozen bottles. The physicians in one of the chief hospitals in Philadelphia are about to attempt a unique operation in removing the tattoo marks from a sailor who was recently landed, there by the British ship Centurion. He is the most tattoed man in the world, the whole of his body, including his face, being covered with curious devices. He shipped on the British steamer Kurdistan, going to the West Coast of South America, and while going through the Straits of Magellan the captain anchored, and the men went on shore. The sailor, parted from his companions, was captured by Patagonians, who, instead of killing their captive, tattooed him with all sorts of designs. One of the figures on his breast closely resembles the signs of the zodiac, while on his back is a winged lion, almost identical with that of Assyrian sculpture. How the natives conceived a creature which was supposed to belong only to ancient Babylon and Nineveh is an interesting problem.
