The interprovincial cricket match Taranaki v. Nelson commenced to-day, bat heavy rain had spoiled a good wicket. Nelson won the toss and batted, patting up 110; F. Blacoe 23, Wastney 17, Graham 16, Whitehorn 25, Stiles 12. McCarthy took 6 wickets for 51, and Gudgeon 4 for 43. Taranaki followed, the wicket improving, and have 67 runs on the board without the loss of a wicket; Pratt 40 and L. Elliott 27 (both not out).

CHRISTCHURCH, January 5,

The Canterbury v. Otago match was continued to-day. Otago made 127 yesterday. To-day Canterbury in their first innings made 98, only D. Eeece 17, E. Sims 31, and A, E. Ridley 16, getting doable figures. Eckhoff took six wickets for 27 runs. Otago in their second innings made a poor start, but owing to the serviceable stand of Downes and Geddes, the total reached 152 before the last wicket fell; Geddes (not out) 41, Downes 34, Baker 14, were the chief scorers. In their second-innings, Canterbury have lost one wicket (D. Reese’s) for 44.
