United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received August 21st, 9 a.m. London, August 20. A cargo of Victorian wheat, ex the Nordlyst, sold at 28s 10£d. The hemp market is hardening and large business is doing. Good Wellington is quoted at £26 per ton. At the periodical sale hides were in small supply. A few lots of light qualities sold at late rates. Basils were id higher; leather, par to id lower.
Frozen mutton.—Crossbred wethers and maiden ewes. Canterbury, 39-16 d; Dunedin and Southland, 3d; North Island, 2|d. Lamb.—Prime Canterbury, 4|d; fair average, including Dunedin, Southland, Wellington and secondary Canterbury, 4 9-16 d. River Plate is unchanged.
Sydney, August 21. In reply to representations, Mr Seddon stales that New South Wales fruit will be admitted to New Zealand provided it is accompanied by the inspector’s certificate that it has been thoroughly fumigated. Melbourne, August 21. Butter shippers have accepted a four years’ shipping contract with the P. and 0. and Orient Steamship Companies.
