A Jubilant Jockey:

TELLS OF HIS SUCCESS. Very few jockeys in New South Wales are better known than Mr Charles Barrett, of 39 Hornsey Street, Rozelle, Balmain’ He is now 30 years of age and in the prime of life. Any matter connected with horses naturally gives him the keenest pleasure, and whilst chatting with a reporter the other day he told how successful he had been in a recent contest. Mr Barrett said: “I am pretty well-known at Rosehill, Granville, Parramatta and the Hawkesbury, and have ridden many winners, including Hencist” afcßandwick, and “Speculation at Rosehill. While exercising a horse however one early morning for the hurdles on the Hawkesbury Course 1 met with an accident to which hangs an interesting tale. When just about to push my mount over a hurdle the animal failed to rise and crashed through instead, falling on top of me and injuring me greatly. I was assisted more dead than alive to the hotel close by. At first no serious symptoms manifested themselves, but two months afterwards I began to Jose the use of my legs and would stagger about like a drunken man. Locomotor ataxia set in in its worst form, livyou had given me £lOOl could not have walked straight, and any stranger would have thought me tipsy instead of injured. I could not even go out of a door without bumping against the side, and I had to retire absolutely from my profession. I came to Balmain to live and whilst there consulted three doctors. I had every attention from them and faithfully took their prescriptions, bub my ease seemed to baffle their skill. Then I tried the Balaam pottage Hospital and wag an in*

mate for nearly three months. I came out a little better but afterwards fell away again and ret urned as an out-door patient. Gradu.-i-.y I became thinner and thinner until 1 was almost a skeleton. I lost my appetite and could eat nothing. Stinging pains attacked me in my calves, the pain being similar to a knife cutting through my flesh. At night I would, wake up and moan with the agony of it, and had to be rubbed with brandy and turpentine to ease the pain. I became an absolute wreck of my former self. I have ridden at 9st 121 b, but was reduced by sickness to Bst 6lb. My friends gave me six months to live, and scarcely thought I would last that time. -One day I read how a jockey had been cured by Dr Williams’ pink pills, and I decided to take them. I had almost finished the first box before I felt any benefit, but from that time I must say they made a wonderful improvement. My sunken cheeks gradually filled puf, and my colour came back again. By degrees the shooting pains in my legs lessened, then they went away altogether. My locomotion improved and at lastl could walk quite straight. This was a wonderful change for the better. My appetite returned, and I ate ray meals with zest. If you had seen me four months ago you would never have believed I could have recovered so quickly. But in two months time from taking the pills I was in every respect a new man. I have spent five times as much money with one doctor alone as I have spent on the pills, and I am sorry to say could not trace any benefit to his treatment. The doctors used to tell me my spine was injured, and would tap me and sound me and remain puzzled. Everyone says Dr Williams’ pink pills have saved my life. 1 know they did and consequently have the greatest pleasure in allowing the publication of my testimonial. I have induced several sufferers to try these pills, and they have derived great benefit from them. For strengthening the spine, enriching the blood, invigorating the body, and toning up the nerves, no better tonic exists.” Mr Barrett’s praise is fully merited by Dr Williams’ pink pills for thousands of people have sent in testimonials stating how they have been cured by them of one or more of the following diseases, rheumatism, bronchitis, influenza, neuralgia, pleurisy, pneumonia, consumption, paralysis, St, Vitus dance, skin eruptions, nerve troubles, ladies’ ailments, loss of manly strength, anaemia, debility and liver and kidney troubles.
