The first trial of three tests for the intercolonial yacht championship for one raters over a 18-mile course, prize £IOO and challenge cup, took place this afternoon. Considerable interest was taken in the event. Nine boats started, the Alma, Bronzewing IV', Geisha, Laurel, Mahoe, Maka Maile, Mercia, Vanora, Waitekauri. The Laurel was first away, but after sailing five miles was overhauled by the , Mercia, after which there was nothing in the race but Mercia which won easily by about ten minutes, the Laurel second, Alma third, Maka Maile fourth, Waitekauri fifth, Geisha sixth, Bronzewing IV. seventh. In the men’s singles Cox and Collins play off; in the doubles Gore brothers meet Cox and Collins; ladies singles, Miss Lean and Miss M, Simpson meet, and Miss Nunneley plays the winner for the championship of the colony; ladies’ championship doubles, Misses Lean and Nunneley meet Misses M. Ramsay and Campbell. In the ladies’ handicap singles Miss Nunneley owe 40 meets Mias Gorrie, receives 3-6ths of 15.
