SEADOWN.
The annual picnic and presentation of prizes in connection with the Seadown "school took place at Mr Campbell’s plantation last Thursday. The day was showery, but there was nevertheless a gbod attendance. A good programme of sports, with £2 10s worth of prizes, was provided for the children, who were also liberally supplied with refreshments. The arrangements for the picnic were well looked after by the members of the Committee with Mr W. 8. Cain (chairman) at their head, and the day was wound up with hearty cheers for Mr Campbell. The Hon. J. M. Twomey M.L.C., distributed the prizes, and the children gave three hearty cheers for him also. The following is the prize list ;t—Standard VII — Nellie Beattie (dux) Alice Hornbrook, Maggie Sullivan. St. Vl—Jane Cargo, Hannah O’Connell, Fanny Fitzgerald. St. Y —Eva Howe, Alex Anderson, Katie Taehen. St. IV— Mary O’Connell, Samuel Cargo, Jeremiah McKenna. St. Ill—Julia Falvey, Willie Cain, Maggie Taehen. St. II - Katie Breen, Patrick Hanifin, Mary McKenna. St. I—Ernest Hornbrook, Hannah Connell, Isabel Cochran. Master’s specials Mary Sullivan, St. VII; J. Dwan, St. V. The prizes in Standards VII, VI and V were presented by the Hon. W. Hall-Jones. All children below Standard I received prizes. Sewing; St. VII—E. Beattie, A. Hornbrook; St. VI—M. Cain, J. Cargo; St. V.—P. Amyes, K. O’Driscoll; St. IV—E. Anderson, M. Ahern; St. Ill—B. Holwell, G. Hornbrook; St. lI—K. Breen, K. O’Connell; St. I—H. Connell, L. O’Connell; P.I.—E. O’Connor, M. Hanifin. A special prize (given by Mrs D. Shaw) was awarded to Ethel Hornbrook 3rd in St. Vl.—The sewing was judged by Mesdames M. Smith and D. Shaw. Attendance : Thirty children received prizes for good attendance. TE NGAWAI. The Te Ngawai School picnic was held last Friday, when a good muster of children shared an abundance of good things the committee were able to provide, thanks to the liberal subscriptions received from friends of the school, who, however failed to roll up well to the picnic. The weather was all that could be desired, and the scene of the picnic, the “big rock” under the limestone bluff, was an interesting spot, with shelter if if shelter had been needed. The youngsters had the pleasure, amongst others, of seeing a couple of deer in their wild state. Messrs Thompson Curtis, and Smith and Miss Meredith, the teacher, -were untiring in their; efforts to make the outing enjoyable to the youngsters. The presentation of prizes was made by the chairman Mr Thompson, before the dispersal at 5:30., and the children gave their teacher three hearty cheers.
