Road Boards.
The monthly meeting of the Geraldine Road Board on Tuesday was attended by Messrs J. Kelland (chairman), A. Metcalf, K. Brophy and ,1. Wharton. Mr P. W. Studholme sent an apology for absence. Mr T. Corkery’s tender for contract No. 45 at £29 was accepted, and Mr W. Gamer's tender was ’accepted for contract 46, £lB 9s 9d. It was decided, at the suggestion of Mr J. Sullivan, Pleasant Point, to make several improvements to Kakahu roads, and on the application of Mr R. McKay, Opuha, it was decided to widen the cutting next Opihi river-bed and reduce it if practicable. Mr G. Pym’s application for grade of road to be reduced leading to his property and Mr Jessep’s was notagreed to, as the Board thought the pinch would not be objectionable if a gate was removed. Mr James Shaw, Rangitata, was granted pipes for the entrance to his gate provided he put them down to the Board’s satisfaction. The Board was not favourably inclined to the Temuka Road Board’s system for dealing with the small birds nuisance; they doubted if it would work satisfactorily. A large number of ratepayers applied for a stock bridge over Bobbie’s creek on the main road to Orari and Bellield. — After discussing the matter the Board agreed that the ford might be improved by deepening the outlet, and instructed the overseer to see to the same. The Chief Surveyor wrote that the lessees had consented to deviation of road at Rakitairi settlement, provided the Board fenced the land on the new line of road. —The Board adhered to its custom to call upon parties interested to do their own fencing. It was decided to call tenders for easing cutting near Mr Lysaght’s, and the overseer was instructed to attend to protection of Te Moana footbridge, and fill in ruts on Donkin’s road; also to place some shingle on road in front of Mr S. Barker’s house. The payment of Harbour Board’s contribution of £537 15s Id was held over. Several alterations on the rate roll were agreed to. It was resolved to fence the approach to the stone bridge, Main Road, Geraldine. Mr L. McLean was granted permission to cart some boulders on to the road in front of his property. The Board could not see its way to insure a shed on reserve near Nalder’s or sell same to Mr D. Guthrie in the absence of the tenant. It was decided to crush all wheat for poisoning in future, and to employ Mr Regan distributing till next meeting. The overseer’s report was read and approved. It was resolved to strike a general rate of id in the £. Accounts amounting to £149 12s 6d were passed for payment. The Board then rose.
