Gold Robbery from a Home Liner.

Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Per Press Association. Melbourne, January 24. There was great excitement in the city yesterday afternoon when it leaked out that 5000 sovereigns had been stolen from the strong room of the Oceana which was ready to sail for Home. It appears that on Friday £290,000 were stowed in the strong room, andyesterday an additional £53,000 was brought aboard. It was then discovered that the door of the strong-room had been broken open and that a box containing 5000 sovereigns which had been shipped at Sydney was missing. The box contained five smaller boxes of a thousand each, and had been broken open to allow of the easy re moval of these smaller boxes. The steamer has been detained, but there is no clue.
