AUSTRALIANS v. SOMERSETSHIRE. r’ER Electric Telegraph— Copyright. Per Press Association. London, August 25. The Australians first innings closed for 129, the chief scorers being Olden 40 Donnan ..." 41 Healey took 3 wickets for 50, and Robson 6 for 22. On resuming the match to-day the wicket was playing easily, but a drying sun and wind quickly changed affairs and rendered batting difficult. Darling was bowled second ball, and Iredale lost his wicket with the score at 17. Giffen and Donnan were the only members of the team who made a stand, and both played very steadily. The former’s innings, however, was not without blemish, as he gave three chances, each of which though was very hot. Robson was tried when the colonial score stood at 84 and the wicket suiting him he brought about a collapse, four wickets falling for 10 runs. Kelly and Trumble managed to raise the score sufficiently to save a follow on.
Somersetshire, with a lead of 90 runs on the first innings, began their second innings, but found the wicket treacherous, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had lost six of their most valuable bats for 41. In the home team’s second innings Lionel Palairet was dismissed by McKibbin before a run was scoi'ed. Three other batsmen were out when the total stood at 1 run. Woods and Robson then became associated and carried the total to 27 when both were dismissed. Challen and Hill played cautiously and were at the wicket when stumps were drawn.
