A Busy Monarch.
A London paper of December 6th, satirically describes the activity of the Emperor of Germany During the past forty-eight hours the German Emperor has been having what his Imperial Majesty probably considers a really enjoyable time. He went to bed, we presume,last night—certainly he had earned a night’s rest—but we should not be surprised to hear that this morning he •“ alarmed ” the Spandau or some other garrison at daybreak,and afterwards held a review on the Tempelhofer-Feld. For days he has been roaming about like a restless comet, and on Tuesday morning he enjoyed his favourite diversion of “ alarming ” a garrison—that of Kiel this time. Then he rode out and reviewed some troops, after which he discarded his military for his naval uniform, and hurried on board the Brandenburg, and put to sea to watch —and, we imagine, to direct—some manoeuvres of a naval division. On his return to Kiel he took train for Berlin, where he arrived in the early morning, but not to go to bed, for soon afterwards he received the Prince of Wales, the Emperor naturally wearing a German uniform, and returned lhe visit shortly afterwards dressed in his English Dragoon uniform. Then hereceived the German Reichstag deputies, or as many as chose to present themselves, in the royal castle, when he read his speech, an exceptionally long one, from the throne, which he did, we are told, with an impressive delivery and ample gesture—this time, of course, again in German uniform. This was followed by the elaborate function of dedicating the new Reichstag building, and the delivery of another address which, from its terms, must have been directly inspired, if not actually written, by His Majesty. How His Majesty filled up the day the faithful chroniclers of his movements
have not yet told us—probably because they have been unable to keep pace with his movements. ;
