GERALDINE FLOWER SHOW.

The ninth annual show of the Geraldine Floral, Horticultural and Industrial Association was held in the Volunteer Hall on Thursday, the weather being all that could be desired, and enabling the show to be visited by a large number of persons from all parts of the district. As evidence of the increasing interest shown year by year it may be stated that there were over 120 entries more for this show than was the case last year ; and between 60 and 70 more members. The staging' was arranged differently to former occasions, whereby the public had more room to promenade. Amongst the entries “ for exhibition only ” were two large pencil drawings by Mr C. Heatley, ayoung local artist. The refreshment stall was presided over by the Misses Byrne and Morrison, who were kept busily engaged, especially during the evening. Throughout the afternoon and evening little girls glided hither and thither ‘ button-holing ” the people and most effectively disposing of their pretty floral buttonholes. The first part of the staging was devoted to needle and fancy work, bread, cakes, butter, etc., and was the principal attraction of the show, especially among the ladies. At the back were a large nuumber of geraniums in pots presenting a mass of bloom, which added considerably to the beauty of the show._ During the evening several ladies contributed to the enjoyment of the hour by playing pianoforte selections. A protest was entered against Mr R. H. Pearpoiiff, in carrying off the cottage garden first prize, but on due consideration by the whole of the committee later on the decision of the judges_ was upheld. There was only a small display of fruit, but the exhibits were splendid. Messrs Nairn ana Son, florists, of Christchurch had a special exhibit of roses which were greatly admired. Messrs G. Sealey, Lowe, and F. Saunders acted as judges for the vegetables; R. Nairn and H. West, jnr., for flowers; Mesdames F. Barker, Cutten and Tux-ton for fancy work, etc., and Mr Hughes for pencil drawings.
