[Lord Eipon has refused to receive a native embassy from that country. THE TONGARIRO. The Tongariro left Plymouth oh Saturday for Wellington and Lyttelton with 2650 tons of cargo and 67 passengers. THE FLOODED COLLIERY. January 16. There are still 92 miners entombed in the Giglake colliery, and there is now but a small prospect of their escape. LORD BRASSEY. The Daily Telegraph congratulates the empire colony on Lord Brassey’s acceptance of the Governorship of Victoria, especially in view of the threatened reduction in salary. The Daily Neivs says that Lord Brassey is the right man in the right place, but at the same time highly eulogises Lord Hopetoun’s record in Victoria. LORD ROSEBERY. Lord Rosebery will shortly retire from the London County Council. The Standard asserts that the apparent helplessness of the Victorian Parliament has a disturbing effect on the colony’s stock. / NOT POISONED. Brussels, January, 16. Several doctors certify that the victims attributed to Journax died from natural causes. NEUTRALITY OF GERMANY. ; Berlin, January 15. In the Reichstag, Baron Bilberstein, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs,, said that Germany desired to maintain an attitude of complete neutrality, and had no wish to adopt an overbearing attitude towards other Powers. The national feeling of Germans abroad, however, required strengthening, and the number of cruisers ought to be increased. N JABEZ BALFOUR. Buenos Ayres, January 15. The British Consul from here has left Salta after being there a year, as he despairs of the extradition of Jabez Balfour to England.
