Wellington Items. WELLINGTON. November 25. The Turukenga rection of the Rotorua Railway, nineteen miles long, end reaching within eight miles of Rotorua, was opened yesterday without formality. Last week it was reported to the police that a child named Knuckey, living with its mother in Courtney Place, was dying apparently of starvation. A doctir visited it, and said it could not live long. The child was taken from the mother, but died yesterday, and the doctor refusing to certify the cause of death, an inquest will be held. The Sngineer-in-Ohief has inspected and passed two sections of the Midland Railway along the northern shore of Lake Brunner to within three miles of the Teremakau. The remaining section to the river is nearly finished, and the bridge is expected to be ready by February. Railway communication will then be established between Reef ton, Hokitika and Jackson’s.
