A relative of the condemned man Makin had a painful interview with the Premier to-day at which he petitioned for a reprieve. A special meeting of the Executive is to be held to-morrow to consider the petition. MURDER AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Melbourne, August 11. j Sraidt, a farm-labourer, in consequence I of a long-standing feud, deliberately shot a fellow servant named Frolick dead, and then attempted suicide. It is unlikely that he will recover. (Received 0.50 a.m., August 12th.) SMALLPOX. Sydney, August 11. Another case of smallpox has occurred ou board the steamer Ching Tu. THE CHINESE. The Collector of Customs reports that all the Chinese arriving in Sydney are satisfactorily accounted for. He believes that many leak in through being transferred from China steamers to the intercolonial vessels.
