London, July 24. Two hundred and eighty thousand miners cease work on Friday. Mr J. Wilson is suing a London evening paper for £IOOO for libel, for accusing him of recklessly expending the funds of the Seamen’s Union, cf which he is the Secretary. July 25. In his evidence in the libel suit, Wilson admitted that local securities to the extent of £2OOO had been embezzled, and also that the expenditure pec annum on salaries and management amounted to nearly £20,000 before the members of the Union derived any benefits. He also admitted that it was illegal to apply to expenses of management £BOOO of subscriptions received for a special purpose.
